December 3, 2020We have detailed the most accessible destinations this winter in the Eastern Caribbean, outlining the safety requirements necessary for travelling. Countries in the Eastern Caribbean are facing very low rates of Covid infections making it a safe destination to visit this winter. Different countries, and groups of islands, have varying travel restrictions so please use the comprehensive information below to understand the local protocols in place.
The following guide is organised in alphabetical order to facilitate the search for particular countries.
CARICOM Travel Bubble
Some countries in the Eastern Caribbean are forming “Travel Bubbles” to enable safe and unrestricted travel between islands. In theory, member countries allow travel between bubble islands with no quarantine as long as passengers have remained at least 14 days in the bubble countries prior to entry.
The CARICOM travel bubble is comprised of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Other islands have also listed countries that they include in their travel bubble.
Anguilla
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests required: A negative PCR test is required taken 3-5 days prior to arrival. A second PCR test is taken upon arrival. A third PCR test is then taken 10/14 days after arrival depending on country of origin.
Quarantine: There is a compulsory 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
Other requirements: Visitors must have valid travel medical insurance that covers COVID-19 related illness.
Travel Bubble: Anguilla does not have a travel bubble with other countries, but for visitors arriving from “low risk” countries quarantine is reduced from 14 days to 10 days. The list of “low risk” countries is flexible to change.
Antigua and Barbuda
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests required: A negative PCR test is required taken within 7 days prior to arrival. Health screening will also be carried out upon arrival.
Quarantine: All visitors are subject to 14 days quarantine before continued travel is allowed unless arriving from within the “Travel Bubble”.
Travel Bubble: Antigua and Barbuda is part of the CARICOM bubble. Visitors arriving from another CARICOM country as well as Anguilla and the BVIs do not have to quarantine upon arrival but still need a negative PCR test.
Aruba
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests required: Negative PCR test is required within 3 days prior to arrival OR a test can be taken upon arrival.
Quarantine: Quarantine is only required for visitors who take a PCR test upon arrival. These individuals must self-isolate until the results of the PCR test are received.
Other requirements: Visitors must fill out an Embarkation/Disembarkation card before arrival. Visitors must also have Aruba Visitors Insurance that covers incurred medical and non-medical expenses.
Bahamas
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests required: A negative PCR test is required to be taken within 5 days prior to arrival. A second rapid antigen test will be taken upon arrival if staying longer than 5 days.
Quarantine: There is no quarantine upon arrival to the Bahamas for any visitors who test negative for COVID-19.
Other requirements: Once in possession of a negative PCR test, visitors must apply for a travel Health Visa before arrival. A short Health Survey is also required each day for the first 5 days of your stay.
Travel Bubble: Travel to the Bahamas does not require quarantine and there is no travel bubble with other countries. Cruising between islands is permitted but be aware that protocols may vary between islands.
Barbados
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests required: A negative PCR test is required taken within 3 days prior to arrival. A second PCR test is to be taken 4-5 days after arrival.
Quarantine: Travellers will be required to quarantine in their accommodation until a negative result of the second PCR test is confirmed.
Other requirements: Accommodation must be pre-approved before it is allowed to accept visitors participating in quarantine.
Travel Bubble: Barbados is part of the CARICOM bubble. Visitors arriving from another CARICOM country as well as Aruba, Anguilla, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Curaçao, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Barts, Saint Martin, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos do not have to quarantine upon arrival but still need a negative PCR test.
Bermuda
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required taken within 7 days prior to arrival. A second PCR test will then be conducted upon arrival. On Day 4, Day 8 and Day 14 after arrival further PCR tests must be conducted at one of the testing centres on the island.
Quarantine: All visitors must remain in their accommodation until the results of the PCR test upon arrival are confirmed (typically 24 hours).
Other requirements: All visitor must fill out a Bermuda travel authorisation process online prior to travel.
Bonaire
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: All visitors are required to have a negative PCR test upon arrival taken within 3 days of arrival.
Quarantine: There is no quarantine for visitors arriving with a negative PCR test.
Other requirements: All visitors traveling to Bonaire will need to complete and sign a health declaration at least 48 hours before arrival.
Travel Bubble: Passengers from Saba and Sint Eustatius do not need to take a PCR test before arrival. They must, however, complete the health declaration.
British Virgin Islands
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: All visitors are required to have a negative PCR test taken no greater than 3 days prior to arrival. A second PCR test must be taken upon arrival and then a third test after 4 days.
Quarantine: All visitors are required to quarantine until the results of the third PCR test have been confirmed as negative.
Other requirements: All travellers need to submit a travel application prior to arriving to gain a travel authorisation certificate which should be presented upon arrival.
Cayman
Travel restrictions: Travel is currently restricted for all travellers wanting to visit the Cayman Islands.
Curacao
Travel restrictions: Travel is permitted from low-risk and medium-risk countries. A maximum of 20,000 visitors will be permitted on the island to prevent pressures on the local health system.
PCR tests: Each visitor entering Curaçao will need to show a negative result from a certified COVID-19 PCR-test and carry a printed document of proof with them taken no greater than 3 days prior to departure at an accredited laboratory.
Quarantine: No quarantine is required for visitors who present a negative PCR test.
Other requirements: Complete the digital immigration card online before departure. Within 48 hours before departure, you need to digitally fill out the Passenger Locator Card (PLC) and carry a printed document of proof with you.
Travel Bubble: Passengers from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saba, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Eustatius, St. Vincent and Grenadines do not need to take a PCR test before departure. They must, however, complete the immigration card and the Passenger Locator Card.
Dominica
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test taken within 3 days prior to arrival. After 5 days a second test will be taken.
Quarantine: Quarantine regulations vary depending on the country of origin. If a negative test is produced after the second test no further quarantine is necessary.
Other requirements: A health questionnaire must be submitted at least 24-hours prior to arrival.
Travel Bubble: Dominica is part of the CARICOM bubble. Visitors arriving from another CARICOM country as well as Anguilla, The Cayman Islands, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Bermuda, BVI, Greenland, Singapore, Turks & Caicos Islands do not have to quarantine upon arrival but still need to be monitored for 7 days.
Dominican Republic
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: No PCR test is required to enter the country.
Quarantine: There is no quarantine upon arrival
Other requirements: Passengers will be required to fill out and submit a Traveller’s Health Affidavit. All foreign and Dominican passengers entering or leaving Dominican Republic must also complete the electronic entry and exit form.
Grenada
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required within 3 days prior to arrival. All visitors are to undergo health screening upon arrival and a second test is to be taken on day 4 after arrival.
Quarantine: All travellers are required to quarantine for up to 7 days. Visitors on day 4 have the option to get PCR test to be allowed into the community, or remain at the hotel for the duration of their visit. If you opt to go into the community you must receive confirmation of a negative PCR test and clearance from health officials.
Other requirements: Travellers must apply for a Pure Safe Travel Authorization Certificate before travelling as well as having travel medical insurance that covers COVID-19 related illness.
Travel Bubble: Grenada is part of the CARICOM bubble. Visitors arriving from another CARICOM country do not have to quarantine upon arrival but still need a negative PCR test.
Guadeloupe
Travel restrictions: Guadeloupe remains closed to US citizens but is welcoming other travellers.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required taken within 3 days prior to arrival. If visitors fail to present a negative COVID-19 certificate upon their arrival in Guadeloupe, they will have the obligation to take a test at the airport.
Quarantine: No quarantine is required when travelling to Guadeloupe.
Jamaica
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required on arrival if originating from a “high-risk” country taken within 10 days prior to departure.
Quarantine: Tourists are not subject to quarantine but must stay in a “resilient corridor”. This includes remaining in the hotel/resort unless visiting tourist attractions.
Other requirements: All persons travelling to Jamaica require a Travel Authorization document.
Travel Bubble: Jamaica is not included in any travel bubbles.
Martinique
Travel restrictions: Travel is currently restricted for all travellers wanting to visit Martinique.
Monserrat
Travel restrictions: Travel is currently restricted for all travellers wanting to visit Monserrat.
Puerto Rico
Travel restrictions: Puerto Rico is encouraging only essential travel at this time.
Saba
Travel restrictions: Travel is currently restricted for all travellers wanting to visit Saba.
St. Barths
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR or antigen test is required taken within 3 days or 2 days prior to arrival respectively.
Quarantine: No quarantine is required.
St. Eustatius
Travel restrictions: Only people from low risk countries are allowed to visit Statia as tourists but all other travellers are restricted.
St. Kitts and Nevis
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required taken within 3 days prior to arrival. Health screening will be in place upon arrival.
Quarantine: 1-7 days: “Vacation in Place” travellers are not allowed to leave their hotel, only use hotel facilities and amenities. If staying for 7 days or less, all travellers are required to do a RT-PCR test 72 hours before departure.
8-14 days: “Vacation in Place” travellers are required to conduct a RT-PCR Test (150 USD visitors’ cost), if negative they can participate in the St. Kitts Highlights Tour by Travel Approved Certified Taxi/Tour Operators.
14 days or more: “Vacation in Place” travellers are required to conduct a RT-PCR Test (150 USD visitors’ cost), if negative they are free to integrate into the Federation.
Other requirements: Visitors must complete the Travel Authorization Form. Mobile tracing app must be downloaded for first 14 days of visit.
Travel Bubble: St. Kitts and Nevis is part of the CARICOM bubble. Visitors arriving from another CARICOM country as well as Anguilla do not have to quarantine upon arrival but still need a negative PCR test.
St. Lucia
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: All arrivals must have a negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 7 days before arrival.
Quarantine: For travellers arriving from outside the travel bubble a 14 day quarantine is required before free travel is permitted.
Travel Bubble: St. Lucia is part of the CARICOM bubble. Visitors arriving from another CARICOM country as well as Anguilla do not have to quarantine upon arrival but still need a negative PCR test.
St. Martin / St. Maarten
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required taken within 5 days prior to arrival.
Quarantine: There is no quarantine but visitors are required to self-monitor for up to 14 days.
Other requirements: Travellers must apply for a mandatory health authorisation application. Visitors must also have valid travel medical insurance that covers COVID-19 related illness.
Travel Bubble: No test is required if arriving from low-risk countries including Anguilla, Antiqua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saba, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Eustatius, Thailand.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required taken within 5 days prior to arrival. A second PCR test will be taken on arrival. A third PCR test will be taken on day 4-5.
Quarantine: Quarantine is required for 5 days after arrival and then up to a further 16 monitored days.
Other requirements: Visitors must complete the Pre-Arrival Form
Travel Bubble: St. Vincent and the Grenadines is part of the CARICOM bubble. Visitors arriving from another CARICOM country as well as Anguilla do not have to quarantine upon arrival but still need a negative PCR test.
Turks and Caicos
Travel restrictions: All visitors are welcome.
PCR tests: A negative PCR test is required taken within 5 days prior to arrival.
Quarantine: No quarantine is required upon arrival.
Other requirements: Visitors must have valid travel medical insurance that covers COVID-19 related illness.
USVIs
Travel restrictions: The US Virgin Islands are once again open to international travel, however a list of excluded countries remains in place. Countries prohibited entry include China, Iran, European Schengen area, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
PCR tests: A negative antigen test is required taken within 5 days prior to arrival.
Quarantine: No quarantine is required upon arrival for visitors with valid test results.
